If you can find a few seconds to follow the link and vote for my local Chip Shop , it would be much appreciated by them (I know you haven't been there but I can tell you it is superb and the best in town) I have been going there since 1977,family run business, never a bad chip in all that time, always great service too. It would give them a boost if they even come second in this It is Edward Street Chip Shop... www.burtonmail.co.uk/news/burton-news/burton-fish-chip-shop-1606064Thanks!

Done. They are in solid second, but a long way from first. It seems everyone else is not so well regarded? Doesn't have as many on-line promoters with international circles of friends? Isn't a hit with the millennial/hipster crowd? Good luck.
Best regards, Frank

Isn't a hit with the millennial/hipster crowd? Good luck. Best regards, Frank Thanks for helping out everyone. The leaders (Wetmore) used to be the owners of the Edward Street chippy but 'retired' almost 20 years ago, so they have a lot of love from a wide range of people across the town. And they really know how to make chips. Their life has been fish and chips. I don't think the majority of the others have really been established long enough to mobilise much of a vote. The owners come and go, and very much like a pub or restaurant, the quality is variable. Loyalty is hard won when it come to fish and chips. The fish and chip business in the UK is quite a case study. It's a stereotype that the Greek/Cypriots are the best at making chips, but the top 3 in that list are Greek/Cypriot owners. Also, chip shops in UK tend not to franchise or have chains- they are usually family run. It's a classic working class staple. I also read up the other day that fish and chips (despite being fried) are comparatively the 'healthiest' take away food, versus Indian, Chinese and Pizza.

Well, of course the best fish and chips come from Yorkshire!
And the best fish and chips in Yorkshire come from the Magpie Café in Whitby, now restored after a disastrous fire last year. I'm happy to report, on the evidence of the recent bank holiday weekend, that the standard of their fish & chips (fried - of course - in beef dripping) remains magnificent.

What seems to be about a million years ago, the Mrs and I finished a 50+ mile ride around Martha's Vinyard, Cape Cod, Mass., USA. Totally exhausted her to the point she did something previously unheard of. She doesn't touch fish or beer, but that night in Falmouth, she devoured her fish and chips and chugged her beer like I've never seen. So here's a vote for roadside no-name fish and chips in Cape Cod as the only fish the Mrs ever enjoyed!
Edit: The name just came back to me...McNemamies??? or something close to that. I wonder if it's still there. Any members in the Cape?

In fact, pretty much every chippy in Whitby is excellent

The voting for Burton's finest is long closed, but if the net is widened a bit I'd put in a good word for Fishers in Fulham. Open since 1982, they too suffered a major fire a few years ago but bounced back. must be an occupational hazard for chippies, with all that hot fat about. Being Fulham, they also offer grilled or steamed fish, but the traditional battered is very good. The chips are excellent and the portions generous.

The top 20 have been shortlistedSadly, it looks as though the Burton-on-Trent chippy scene isn’t represented in the national finalists. Could we incorporate a visit to either Sidney & Sons or Captain’s in Hoddesdon if we run another Lea Valley DFR? Poppie’s in Soho looks to have a new-model Raleigh Chopper parked outside. Has anyone here ridden or rebuilt an original one of those recently? I feel myself curiously drawn to one as a project, but people are asking silly money for original 'banana seat' models.
