Hi All,
As a new member to this clan and with my Lambert still in bits this may be a premature question but are there any rides planned in the UK for 2018 and I mentioned when it’s warmer, age has removed the masochistic approach to life these days........
Would be interested and will make every effort to join in if possible.

Nick....it's never too premature for planning! There is generally a big one in mid June or thereabouts (trying to avoid TdF and Eroica etc) and then a few other 'spin-off' rides occur here or there. They are all recorded in this section on the forum I think. There was even talk of a US one!
So, maybe after we get Christmas out of they way, we can get some potential dates up here on the board and narrow it down and then fix it in the diary.
From experience we have found that we can never quite find one date that everyone can make , and then even when we do, we seem to go back and forth on a venue for a while. But so far, we have always managed something.
I'm glad you're interested , it's always great to have new faces at the events!
Regards Jem

Hi Jem
Thanks for the feedback. I’m always on the move these days as my wife and I live between Italy and China but are in the UK a lot for family reasons so could always tie in a trip with a meet if possible.
My Lambert is in bits at the moment, the frame is with Bob Jackson’s and most components are refurbished ready for reassembly, just need to rebuild the wheels and get the QR skewers back from the chrome shop. I’m in Asia at the moment and back in February so with a fair wind will be on the road by March. I have to say the whole Lambert story is interesting and part of British cycling history, they had a go at making a fully English bike and you cannot fault them for trying. Mine will be as true to the original spec as it can be, I have the Mk1 forks on and they polished up like new, not sure about using them on the road and maybe should fit some steel ones.........what is the general opinion on this? Are people using them still or is it realllu something I shouldn’t consider doing? Would welcome any thoughts.

I’m not sure I’d use mark 1’s though.

As Whippet says, a few people ride them. The thinking is that they have lasted this long, they might have busted by now if they were going to go. Also, we are a gentle riding bunch, not prone to hopping up curbs etc, so that's on our side. Also, only 0.02% were ever known to actually be recorded as broken during use.
The flip side of this is that if it went during a downhill, it would be without warning and not worth thinking about.
So - it's a choice for each individual to mull over...

Got to say I wasn’t planning anything dramatic on this bike, more a gentle ride than a big We climb and dive downhill. I will give it a try when finished and see how I feel. Thanks for for the feedback, Nick

Best wishes to everyone here for the festive season!
So long as we survive the next week of eating and drinking too much, where and when do people fancy for DFR6?
I wondered about looking somewhere between Stafford and Crewe. Accessible by road and rail from London. A bit of a schlep for Pete, Lewis, and Stoatie (looking forward to seeing you again!) from the SW, but handy for Busaste, whose attendance has to be one of our priorities for 2018.
Can anyone who already has a fixed ‘can’t do’ weekend in their diaries flag it up here? I’ll start with 13-15 July (Scout group’s camp weekend) is out for me. Eroica Britannia is 15-17 June, so best avoided for those who are thinking of doing that. (I’m not sure, as it nearly killed me this year!).
Anyhow, I hope that Santa brings you all some nice shiny bike bits tomorrow, and wish everyone a very happy 2018.

Just bumping this thread. Anyone ready to think about DFR6 yet? I’ve now signed up for the BHF London to Brighton ride with some friends on 17th June, so I’m dodging Eroica Britannia this year to do something a bit less hilly instead. I see from this month’s journal that Cycling UK (aka Cyclists’ Touring Club) are running a series of Challenge rides this year, beginning in Stevenage on 25th March. Choice of distances are 100mile, 100km, 200km, and 62km. I think that this is Rona’s home patch. Anyone fancy joining in? Edit 24/01/18: The Cycling UK site also lists a 50km Challenge ride on Sun 25th March from Two Mills on The Wirral, though the local club programme indicates a 50 mile ride that day. If that part of the world is appealing to Pete, Busaste and other ex-pat or resident Northerners for DFR6, we could join the Wirral Bikeathon on 10th June as a group, with 14-mile or 28-mile routes from Arrowe Country Park around the Wirral. Online entry opens on 1st March.

Hi all - is there an appetite for this this year? Should it be the full weekend or just a day ride? Are people struggling to fit it in? Do we need to get planning? Normally by this time we start to form some general consensus on the whens/ and wheres. If it looks like things are too crowded then maybe we have other possible ideas? Let's post up and get thinking?

I wouldn't mind the Wirral Bikeathon ride as I could visit family afterwards. I've only been on my bike once since I had my heart attack in October,so flatish routes for me please as I may be struggling a bit. The Two Mills ride in March would be out,it's probably routed into North Wales as it's a challenge ride. Good if you're fit and don't mind the chill of early spring! Any other routes I'm ok with. I may just have to meet you all at a pub at the finish!!!! Cheers, Pete.

My movements are all over the place so best for me to just try and slot in to whatever is agreed. I'm doing the Cartlon Flyer Weekend 5th & 6th May, then am in the UK for a month or so before leaving for Asia again.

Wirral camping at Arrowe Brook Farm or Wirral Country Park? Trains from London Euston to Liverpool Lime St take 2hrs12mins direct or 2hrs36mins via Crewe. Advance tickets currently being offered for about £30 each way. Trains from Birmingham take about 1hr40mins, advance tickets on offer for about £10 each way. Potential to convene on Saturday morning 9th June, with a Viscount ride in the afternoon, usual socialising on Saturday evening, then those who wish to could join the Wirral Bikeathon on Sunday morning, then all away home on Sunday afternoon. Just initial thoughts...

I am definitely in favour of a traditional Viscounts DFR (at least one) this year. Mass participation by Viscounts in other organised rides would be a bonus.
For myself, the weekends including 24 June and 15 July are out for family birthday reasons.

Liverpool too far to drive from London & back in one day, so rail travel is appealing - but how far from Lime Street would the camp site be?

John, Arrowe Farm is 7.5 miles from L’pool Lime St, on a route that includes a crossing of the Mersey. Alternatively, there are trains from Lime St to Bidston or West Kirby, which are on The Wirral. I’m sure we’d be able to sort something out with those who’ve come by car if this was the only obstacle.

Train to Lime Street, then Wirral Line under the river to Spital. It's not so far from there and you don't get to listen to that aweful Jerry Marsden on the ferry!!! Cheers, Pete.

As long as you've got locking quick release wheels you'll be ok. You'll need to check with Merseyrail (or whatever they are called nowadays) on taking bikes on the train. Cheers, Pete.

Just to say that the Avon Dassett Soap box derby is on the 23rd of June this year,I won't be available for the Death Fork ride if the dates should clash. Anyone else got dates in June that they're not available for? Cheers, Pete.

I've nowt in t' diary yet for this summer, but if folk want to join in the Wirral Bikeathon on 10th June, should we have a Viscount only event sometime in August?
If these don't suit, should we arrange something for the first weekend in July, as per the original DFR?

I think the first w/e in July could be good - would that be 30 June/1 July or 7/8 July?
For what it is worth, I have just heard that the London Freeride is on Saturday 28 July. I don't know if anyone would be planning to take part this year - I will volunteer to marshall again if other commitments permit, but it would certainly be trumped by a Death Forks Rally.

John, I have a place in the Brompton World Championship on 28th July as part of the Ride London weekend, so I might warm up with the Freeride earlier that day. I could make 30 June / 1 July or 7/8 July for a DFR, and quite fancy the Wirral Bikeathon on 10th June if Pete and Sprockit are planning to be there.

I’m pretty booked up with holidays and TT’s this summer, but will try to joint the DFR if I can.
