Rescued this frame had it repaired and painted by Dave Marsh (Universal Cycles) Carlton BMB 1968ishNow trying to collect bits for the build but stalled as don't know whether to do this campy (expensive) or with what I have already (golden arrow group set)?! Also found a falcon and refreshed it Yellow white Falcon ; originally from Brigg, all complete (put on new tyres (have saved the old ones but perished)), nice bike but weighs 2 and a half tonnes!! thrown in a Raleigh Pro Race Had to buy 3 bikes to make one decent one Best regards

proactive52- My advice would be build with what you have. That gets the bike rideable which will let you decide if you like it enough to gradually up grade to the OEM Campy specification. Nothing worse than splashing out the cash and ending up with a ride that makes you regret the outlay. Dave Marsh did a lovely job on it and the bike looks wonderful.Have you shared it on the Facebook Carlton page here: www.facebook.com/groups/1495959500629283/

It's always nice to go with Campy (I have 2 all-Campy bikes: a '74 Schwinn Paramount P-15 and a '79 Austro Daimler Vent Noir II) BUT it's expensive and very time consuming getting all the right stuff together. Personally I really like the Shimano "Golden Arrow" group. I think it's every bit as nice as Dura Ace. One of my major regrets of my cycling life is letting a complete Golden Arrow group get away. It was on a Ross Signature 292S, much too big for me, that looked like it had been ridden maybe twice! From the looks of the Falcon whatever you do will look great. Best, John "wheelson" Wilson

Consider going with the drop-outs and fitting Zeus parts? The 2000 gruppo was introduced in the mid-1970s, so almost right for period. But it might cost as much and take as long to get all the bits together as Campy!

I am more of a Arabesque man but the Golden Arrow parts do look very sleek and stylish.

Carlton BMB build is a little further on now Stronglight crank removed as could not get chain line to a reasonable distance so put back on Super Custom that was on frame when I got it Went for Campagnolo bar ends, nuove record rear and flat face world logo Gran sport (but this may be nuovo also) Cable routing has been try it and lets see; especially the route to the FD. Chain I have is too worn so need another and will get Velox Gudoline soft white for bar tape next week. See first entry for changes and latest photos Best Regards Richard

Hi Richard, never spotted your thread before. I have a few Carlton’s and am on the Carlton Faacbook group which now have well over 1100 members and a very active and knowledgable core group. If you need any help on the build join them (if you haven’t already) as you would have access to a wealth of knowledge. I’m currently working on a 1939 Flyer, it’s next once I rebuild the Lambert, and parts for this are like hens teeth to find at times and cost a fortune. Need a Gloria Tour De France brake calliper and a Constrictor 40 hole wood rim yet, never seen either for sale but one day I will, just a question of patience......! Regards Nick
