Nice looking bike! I think any frame number disappeared when the cut-out was put in the bb shell - I am almost certain that the bike didn't leave the factory with that. Most Lamberts and Viscounts do have frame numbers, at least the ones at or near the top of the model range. The problem is trying to put any meaning to the numbers as to particular model, date &c. I hope Scott doesn't mind me pointing you in the direction of his Reg Harris Lambert here: www.flickr.com/photos/124853585@N02/albums/72157667391916245 Although his has the early lugged frame.

Oooh, that looks nice!
As Cusqueno says, the frame number would be where that cut out is.
If it makes you feel any better, the number wouldn't be much help to give a year etc. The other way would be look at component date stamps if they are original parts?
Hope you enjoy the bike!

Thanks for your help guys. Why the cut out ?? Cant work that out. The bike does not appear to have been used there is no wear on any components. It came from a very large collection of cycles which I was lucky enough to purchase some of them nos.

Nice bike! The slot on the bottom bracket shell serves as a drain point for all the moisture leaking into all the tubes of the bike. Many frames have none, those that do range from a crude hole to a more decorative slot or slots. I've owned 5 or so Austro Daimler's, all with an ugly 1/4 inch hole EXCEPT my Vent Noir II which has multiple slots like yours. After seeing some real rusty messes in the bottom bracket shell, I count the slot as a plus. Best, John "wheelson" Wilson

See this blog post, written by a wise and erudite person (me) some time ago. That covers about everything concerning Death Forks. To sum up, there were early failures, there were a few injuries. Viscount improved the design and if your bike has the third version (the article explains how to identify it), you should be as OK as with any other 38-40 year old bike component. There are plenty of well-used Viscounts about that still have the original alloy forks. But whether to ride as is or replace the fork is your own decision.

Don't worry though as we have no idea what the frame codes actually mean.
