Stopped in my tracks when I saw this in town today. Owner was loading up his panniers and I had a nice chat. It was his brother in laws from new and it was pretty much all original (seat and bars excepted). It looked great and was the first one I've ever seen 'in person'. Rear joints are filet brazed but the front has very classy and ornate lugs. Very unusual. photo 1 by Sooper 8, on Flickr photo 3 by Sooper 8, on Flickr photo 5 by Sooper 8, on Flickr photo 4 by Sooper 8, on Flickr photo by Sooper 8, on Flickr

Did you have a strong urge to start cleaning it?

I just had, looking at it. And that seat post isn't original either, is it? It doesn't look round, or maybe my eyes are screwed.

Can't believe I didn't see this thread. Fascinating! The head tube lugs are totally different to my Victor: this one's are much more ornate. But the bars and grips look original. Love the crankset: is it Viscount or TA? And it still has the original twin-cable Positron rear mech! The other original bits are the lovely Bluemels mudguards with the "chrome" strip.
Actually a closer look at the crankset pic shows that someone has replaced the original chainring with a track chainring. You can see the 3/32" chain sitting proud on the 1/4" teeth. You'd think that would be annoying...
For a moment I thought it had a DA "black" front hub, but I think that's just 30 years of grease and grime.
