Well, just a quick report from a visit to Manchester Velodrome. It was a great experience, and one that I would recommend to anyone who likes cycling. It took a couple of laps to get in the swing of it. I found it rather meditative and calming. I liked the quiet. There were 16 of us, and after the first 10-15 mins there were never 16 on at the same time. It was an hour and it cost £20, and that included everything. The 'training' was about 5 mins, and really consisted in some tips and safety rules. IMG_0696 by Sooper 8, on Flickr

Blaine Velodrome, Minnesota, I guess it's all outdoor. But glad you enjoyed yourself.

Well Jem, if I'd known when you were riding there, I'd have come along to heckle cheer you on.
Have been in there on several occasions myself, but never to ride. Those banked sections at each end look frighteningly steep and a long way down when looked at from the front row of seats.

I never thought to mention it to you but had said I was going to a few folk when we met for DFR4. I had mistaken which weekend it was though. Yes, those banks look just plain daft as you walk in but soon enough you realise that it is the same angle at the top as it is in the middle and the bottom (just about) and that anything over 15mph means you stick to it like glue.

Great stuff Jem, I did Manchester in 1999 and then London last year. Very addictive way of going fast on a bike. In fact, I got accredited at my local outdoor velodrome and bought a bike...
