I'll be going up to London to watch my brother-in-law compete in the Brompton World Championships next weekend (edit) on Saturday 30th July, so I have registered to do the 8-mile London Freecycle while I'm there. Jon, Scott, Marco and I met up and did it last year. The first mile or so is more of a cycle traffic jam than a bike ride, but if you have ever wanted to ride around Trafalgar Square and along Strand without any pesky cars in the way, this is your chance. As well as the sights of central London, there were displays of fine cycle hardware, cycling accessories (?) and pubs along the way. If anyone else is planning to go and fancies meeting up, let me know.

I've registered to marshall the ride in from Hammersmith again, so I hope to be there, but Mrs C has registered disapproval so I might not make it.

I think I've got permission to go. I've got Scott's phone no. and I think Rob's so I'll try calling once I am in the park.

Never mind, John. Maybe next year.
We're heading off shortly, planing to meet some friends at Picadilly Circus at noon, then will take a ride round town and get back to St James' Park in time for the Brompton race at 7:15 this evening. Scott, give me a call if you make it.

The Ride London event was well supported. We waited until mid-afternoon to take our ride along Strand to Leadenhall Market and back along Fleet St to Green Park. Later in the day, my brother-in-Law recorded 28:10 for the 10-mile Brompton World Championship event, 3rd fastest Veteran (>50), 37th overall out of 420+ and definitely the fastest rider in a kilt. The Red one is a Victor, and the blue one is a Grand Sport, but my brother isn't a fan of dropped bars, so I swapped them for some riser bars, grips and levers I had to hand: IMG_4480 by RMT@261, on Flickr Note that the readily-available MKS alloy pedal caps fit the Pista Olimpic pedals very well. The diameter is perfect, but the thread pitch feels slightly different, making for a tight one-time fit - the MKS pedal cap spanner helps. Next job is to take a gentle file to the MKS logos and see if I can graft on a pair of Jim's "V' logos. IMG_4477 by RMT@261, on Flickr
