Sunday 2nd October 11:00 departure from the Rose Cafe Hertford.
Best carpark to use would be that on Hartham the one that is on the old railway link. Go down past Sainsbury's bear right at the new sculpture and pull in to the left for the car park. Free on a Sunday.
I am investigating a pub for lunch.

All looks good to me, thanks, Steve. The garden centre menu looks fine. I'm not fussed about beer for lunch, but I'll have one (or two) when we get back to Hertford. Will we need to carry locks for the lunch stop, or can we park the bikes where we'll be able to see them over lunch? Glad you can make it, Stella! Weather forecast looks good.

I'm afraid I wont be joining you.I badly sprained my left wrist 2 weeks ago and can't put weight on it. Riding any distance at all is out for another few weeks. Have a great time, photos please. Cheers, Pete.

Locks will be a good idea, just to be on the safe side. Never had any trouble at the Garden Centre but you never know.

I've got qualified approval to attend on Sunday. One possibility is that Mrs C and young Master C accompany me in the car, but not on the ride. Is there a SAG van or are there any other plus ones coming? Does anyone know of any things to do during the day in and around Hertford, within walking distance of the car park?
Alternatively, I might come by train from Liverpool St via Broxbourne to Hertford East, although that means a forty minute ride across London before and afterwards - I can't be doing with taking my bike on the Tube. Is that the way you are planning to travel Stella?

Thanks Rob,my right hand is fine. I was returning to Swindon after a ride into the Cotswold Water Park on the warmest day recorded in September. A thunder storm caught me up,oh bugger,no waterproofs. As I was now riding on busy main roads,I decided to join a cyclepath adjacent to a bus stop. Water, diesel dropped by buses, moi on the deck! No Viscounts were involved in this incident, the bike I was riding was undamaged. I still had to ride nearly 4 miles home. Two hours in A&E,nowt broken, but it hurts still!!!! I hope you all have a good ride,I'll be thinking of you. Put a pint on my DFR5 bar bill.
Cheers, Pete.

Sorry I can't join you over the weekend. I need to keep the wolf a bit further from the door so I'm working. I'll use one of the Viscounts for the cycle training I'm doing over the weekend, instead of my normal Raleigh Twenty.
I hope all goes well, have a great time, and post lots of pictures on here.
Pete: It's not your pint-lifting arm that has the problem, so you'll be perfectly fine in that respect, and speedy recovery to be back on your bike soon.

Is that the way you are planning to travel Stella? It is indeed. I'll be hopping on the train at Finsbury Park. Possibly only one way and then ride back later as I've done Broxbourne along the river a lot. Additional note: I'm not taking exactly the same route. I'll be going to Hertfort North from Finsbury Park.

Lucky it's just a sprained wrist, trust me, a broken wrist is way more frustrating. Nevertheless, shite and shite timing. One of my colleagues slipped and fell on oil on our shop ride, too. It goes so fast, you can't avoid it.

I'm afraid I won't be able to go on DFR4.5 after all. I had overlooked that today is our wedding anniversary and, today setting in to rain all day, Mrs C wants to go out together tomorrow, which is set fair. Unfortunately this precludes me going off cycling. In my defence, we do have two anniversaries- one civil and one religious - and it's easy to forget one. For me at least. Outside chance we could meet up with you at some point. I'm working on it. 😟

Thanks Robert. Looks promising. Do you have an ETA? 1100(ish) start at Hertford, 14 miles to PB at c.10mph would put us there at about 1230, or nearer 1300 if we stop at Cranborne Rd on the way, I guess. Hope to see you there. Happy Anniversary!

Ahh, John. Did you have to choose to marry that day? :-) Shame you can't come.
I'm just getting ready. Will be at Hertford North at half ten and cyle to Roses Cafe. If that still is the meet up. If not, Rob, could you let me know?

Sorry to all. The idea of going to the garden centre for lunch was vetoed. I was thinking of you though. Hope the ride was excellent.

I'll the the first to post post rally: what a lovely day and great turn up. I thought it'll be like four or five of us, but this was almost like the yearly event. Very lovely to see the 'old' faces again and meet new people. Much thanks to Steve for organising this rather hilly ride, even though I wanted to shed a tear or two and poor Ray got stung by a wasp!
Weather was gorgeous, too; couldn't ask for much more, really. I'll need to find a way to upload the pics so everyone can see them. Bear with me a few days.

We made it to Cranborne Road! DSC02508 by RMT@261, on Flickr No blue plaque for the former Viscount works site, but we lined up outside the firm that stands in its place (or somewhere near it). DSC02514 by RMT@261, on Flickr All my pictures from today (including the one of just the back half of Scott) are in the Flickr album that the link above should take you to. Many thanks again to Steve for organising the route, lunch stop and extra riders. It was great to meet and see so many people. We should think about a link to the local VCC for our next DFR.

First off sorry we missed the turn on to Tyler’s causeway on the way out, which meant a re-programme at Newgate Street of the Garmin and a trip down and up again both Carbone Hill and Vinyards. In my defence I had marked the previous turn and did not have the speed in my legs to catch the flyers down the hill who wizzed past the turn.
Anyway a bit longer in both miles and time but does it really matter we were riding beloved old bikes on a lovely autumn day in good company. Great to meet you all and looking forward to Ray's FLAT Essex ride Will that be DFR 4.75?

Great day, great weather , thanks Steve our host for the day. I don't now about a DF4.5 but a Eroica Hertfordshire 1. All the bikes, Viscount (three deathforks)' Viscountess,Bates, Evans, Hetchins, Pat Hanlon, CBT Italia and two nice modern bikes the ladies were riding. Sorry for missing the turn off , but those detour hills were fun going down, brutal going up. I live next door to Hertfordshire and never knew how many inclines are there. Essex is flatter. Stella and Rhona still had good distances to go after we left them. Strange as well Graham who rode with us worked in one of the units behind the factory for eight years up until recently, and did not know it was the former Viscount Trusty facility. He knows a guy (former cycle racer from the area) who has a mate who built the Viscount race team bikes. He might find out more history. Spooky. Apart from the third wasp sting through the crash helmet this year ( Its going) super day thanks guys. Ray and Lesley

Gutted that I missed this event.
From all the great pictures, it looks like you all had another great day out, blessed with amazing weather for October.
I'll try harder to get to the next get-together!
