We haven't yet managed another organised Viscount ride, despite several good ideas. But, browsing the www, as one does, I found this one. It started because I was looking for Cranborne Road, Potters Bar EN6 3JS You can find it although the Post Code is 'no longer in use'. The route takes in part of the Lee Valley Park, which I think Stella has explored. At just short of 39 miles (62km) it's a bit longer than the DFR routes we are used to, but could be shortened a bit by taking alternative roads I think. Anyone interested? I'll leave you to work out why I was interested in this particular address.

I would be interested. This is my neck of the woods. I have done the Lea Valley its not bad. Hertfordshire bits around the top section look familiar as well.

Have 'visited' Cranbourne Road on Google Street View, but couldn't identify the former Viscount factory.
Maybe Busaste knows which one it was.
Wonder if a factory-to-factory ride is feasible from Bilston to Potters Bar and/or vica-versa.

Screen Shot 2016-04-13 at 20.48.15 by RMT@261, on Flickr Follows the route of the Grand Union Canal most of the way. We'd need to start early, but could probably make it on the Sunday of DFR4 if anyone fancies a challenge! Rob.

It's not much further than the 127 1/4 miles of the end-to-end ride along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, and many cyclists use that as a one-day challenge.
The canal towpath route would mean hammering along through the pedestrians out for a relaxing Sunday stroll, which is not exactly conducive to their 'relaxing' activity!
I've now pulled Cusqueno's thread way off track - sorry John!

Make it a leisurely 2 or 3 day pilgrimage. I'd be up for that.

I have a cousin in Broxbourne and my grandfather was a resident of Chase Farm in 1895 outside of Enfield when it used to be an orphanage, before they shipped him off to Canada. That would be a nice ride, though a bit long. Is there even a month under consideration?

I'm game, I can see my house on that map! Not to sure on what my entry and exit strategy would be though. Cycling I would imagine!

Jem, just to clarify, are you interested in doing the Enfield loop in Cusqueno's original post, the Viscount 'end to end' Bilston to Potters Bar, or both?
I'd be interested in a weekend day jaunt round Enfield & Potters Bar, but might struggle to find time for the long ride this year, though it would be an interesting trip.
I could do a day over August B/H weekend, or most weekends in September or early October if that helps narrow things down at all.

After the 15th Aug up until the first few days of September, I am pretty free most days (but Mon-weds could be totally free for sure) So this would suit me best, but I am flexible,
However, weekends in Sept are good.

I don't have any free weekends until 27th August (Bank holiday weekend), but I could do something then or in any of the first three weekends in September (3rd/4th, 10th/11th & 17th/18th) or the first two weekends in October (1st/2nd & 8th/9th). Unfortunately, I have to go to work during the week to fund my bicycle parts habit.
Does anyone else have a preferred date in September or October?

I probably ought to leave August bank holiday weekend free for family related activities.
I don't think I have a problem with any of the other ones...

Yes, let's do this!
Votes please for September 3rd/4th; 10th/11th; or 17th/18th. Secondary votes for October 1st/2nd & 8th/9th, as it may be cooler and/or wetter than September, but who can tell?
A very quick Google Mapping shows a 14-mile route from Hertford via Hatfield to Cranbourne Avenue, Potters Bar and an 11-mile route back via Brookmans Park and Essendon, giving the DFR-standard 25 mile round trip.
I need to find a straight non-driveside crank to go with my Porthole chainset. My knee is still hurting from pedalling a truncated cone section around my bottom bracket at DFR4. If anyone has a spare, straight TA-Criterium style left crank (JIS taper), I'd be interested.
Raymondo, Lesley, do you think you'll be OK to make it all the way across the border from Harlow?

I think I would have to go for the 1/2nd. My birthday is on the 10th and I should probably be at home that w/e.

By popular vote, 1st and/or 2nd October it is, then. Hertford or Ware on Saturday evening for dinner and drinks?
Are we aiming to get to Potters Bar and back? If so, any further route suggestions are welcome.
Jem, can you update the banner at the top of the home page?

I can plan a almost circular route of 30 miles that misses most of the big hills and main roads from Balls Park campsite to Cranborne Rd. and back if you would like. And may be able to identify the correct industrial unit (if still standing) as I know the chap that used to build the race team frames, although these where not built at Cranborne Rd.
There is a nice Indian restaurant in Hertford Dils that does good food at a reasonable cost. Being a Saturday it would need to be booked in advance.
Feel free to get in touch with me if you want any help (stephenwheeler at ntl world dot com)

I am up for this. Checked how to get there from home and it's about 31 miles and the shortest way would involve a lot of the A10, so I'll drive rather than cycle, which means either the North Circular (A406) or the M25. Is any more planning necessary?

John, would you plan to come up for just the day of the ride?
I could combine a day based around Hertford with a trip for my wife to see old friends. It's a two-hour journey each way for us in the car, so I'd appreciate a mid-morning start.
Do you and Steve (or anyone else thinking of joining us) have a preference for whether we plan to ride on either Saturday 1st or Sunday 2nd November?

Late to the party, as usual. Hertford is within reach for me and I might be free 1 Oct., am free 2 October. Route - Rob's suggestion of half the original ie through Hatfield to PB and then north via Essendon is good. Area around Essendon is lumpy, but scenic

Hi, Rona, great to hear from you, and it will be good to have you along for the Herts ride.
Will you come by train (St Albans to Hertford North or East looks like an epic journey for such a short distance), by car or ride across?
I would be happy to fix the date at Sunday 2nd October if it suits you better than the 1st, so long as John and Steve are OK for that day (?).
Can I propose an 1100 departure from Hertford, with a lunch stop in Potters Bar?
Steve, if none of us are camping overnight, is there a car park in Hertford that Rona and John could use for the day and we could all meet? Also, if you could work up a route to PB and back that avoids fast dual carriageways & A-roads, that would be greatly appreciated.
